Beuzelin steers Coin Toss to first Australian victory

Jockey Louis-Philippe Beuzelin won his first race on his second ride since his move to Sydney, Australia.
Jockey Louis Beuzelin is building a strong relationship with the Waterhouse-Bott stable in Australia.

Last year’s Group 2 Singapore Guineas (1600m) winner, Coin Toss, broke through for his first win since being transferred to Australia when he triumphed in the $165,000 Listed National Sprint over 1400m at Canberra on Sunday.

Adding a touch of Singaporean flair to the moment, former Kranji-based jockey Louis Beuzelin was in the saddle for the winning occasion.

Coin Toss was making his third Australian start on Sunday after competing twice during the Spring Carnival in Sydney last year. Despite starting at long odds in both the $1 million Silver Eagle and subsequently the $10 million Golden Eagle, Coin Toss finished no further back than 3.5 lengths, securing ninth and twelfth place, respectively.

However, it was a different story on his reappearance on Sunday, as Coin Toss was sent off as the well-backed $2.8 favourite, with Beuzelin riding him in the manner that one has come to expect from many of the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained runners: find the front and run them into the ground.

Posting an official winning margin of two lengths, it marked Beuzelin’s eighth win from 19 rides for the Waterhouse-Bott yard since he relocated from Singapore to Australia in December.
