Champion sprinter Lucky Sweynesse has been sidelined for the season due to a fractured fetlock suffered during Sunday’s Group Two Sprint Cup (1200m).
Trainer Manfred Man confirmed the injury, which seemingly occurred as Lucky Sweynesse turned for home after rebounding into the winner’s circle following two consecutive defeats heading into Sunday’s feature.
the official press release stated: The Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare & Biosecurity Policy have advised the Stewards that LUCKY SWEYNESSE was noted to be lame in its left front leg this morning after winning The Sprint Cup (Group 2) at Sha Tin yesterday. Further assessment revealed that LUCKY SWEYNESSE has sustained a fracture to its left fore cannon bone that will require surgical intervention followed by a period of rest and rehabilitation before returning to training and racing.
Despite boasting wins in all four of Hong Kong’s Group One sprints, Lucky Sweynesse will miss the opportunity to defend his Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1,200m) crown on April 28’s Champions Day.
Man is hopeful that Lucky Sweynesse will recover in three to four months and return to top form for the next season.
With Lucky Sweynesse out of the Chairman’s Sprint Prize, attention turns to Group One Al Quoz Sprint (1,200m) hero California Spangle and Centenary Sprint Cup winner Victor The Winner as the main protagonists.
