Top jockey William Pike could send punters home with their pockets lined with cash as his mount, four-year-old gelding DESENNEA, appears to be a solid winning chance in the final race, the $80,000 Ratings 66+ Handicap over the mile at Ascot racecourse, Australia.
DESENNEA is third-up in his current preparation and seems ready to peak at the mile after two very encouraging efforts over 1400m since resuming in late March. On each occasion, he has come from sixth position in the run to storm home late and finish as the runner-up.
With one win and a third from two tries over 1600m, both at this track and distance, DESENNEA clearly stands out as the horse they all have to beat with Pike in the plate.
Resuming filly to lay down the Law at Eagle Farm
Three-year-old filly SKIRT THE LAW has the potential to secure a first-up win in the $160,000 Listed Mick Dittman Stakes over 1000m at Eagle Farm racecourse, Australia on Saturday.
SKIRT THE LAW returns from a seven-month break, having last competed during the Spring Carnival in Victoria, where she showed strong performances despite not winning.
This included a second-place finish in the Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield, followed by a third-place finish in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes at Flemington.
Her final appearance down south saw her finish seventh in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley, where she faded late in a fast-run race.
SKIRT THE LAW emerges as the top choice in Saturday’s race, with former champion Singapore jockey Vlad Duric guiding her. Duric has been making his mark on the Queensland racing scene since his return.
