Hollywoodbets Kenilworth hosts a nine-race card on Tuesday that is likely to be dominated by Brett Crawford and Justin Snaith, among the trainers, as well as their respective stable jockeys, Louis Mxothwa and Grant van Niekerk.
Crawford saddles a strong coupling in Race 1 over 1200m and after a promising debut second over 1000m, well-bred Canford Cliffs filly Artiste – whose dam is multiple Grade 1 winner Dancer’s Daughter – looks the one to be with.
However, Gareth Wright takes over the reins from Mxothwa who partnered the two-year-old first time out five weeks ago. Mxothwa rides Querari debutante Sweetsummerlove instead so her chances have to be respected, especially if attracting market support.
Snaith and Van Niekerk ought to find the winners’ enclosure in Race 2 with Eight On Eighteen, and that combination is good value to land a race-to-race double with well-related Charlotte Bronte in Race 3.
The former, a two-year-old Lancaster Bomber colt, caught the eye on debut when running on well from the rear of the field to finish second over 1200m. He would have come on appreciably with the benefit of that experience and needn’t improve a great deal to open his account.
His stable companion, who is a Lancaster Bomber half-sister to exciting young Trippi sire Charles Dickens, improved for the step up in distance to 1400m in her last start to finish a close-up third and a repeat of that effort over the same course and distance will probably result in Snaith’s charge shedding her maiden tag.
Charlotte Bronte also receives a 3kg sex allowance from her male counterparts with Van Niekerk ideally positioned in stall No 4.
The Crawford-Mxothwa combination is strongly represented in Races 8 and 9, with TAB’s Double an attractive betting proposition. Consistent Querari gelding Speed Racer has won once and finished second four times in his last four starts, including in his most recent outing, so Crawford’s charge would not be winning out of turn if rewarded for that consistency over 1100m.
Lightly raced four-year-old filly Great Cat also finished second last time out, over 1100m just 17 days ago, and reverting to 1200m should bring about a return to winning ways for the Hollywoodbets-owned daughter of Dynasty.
