Jockey R Shafiq finds himself in hot water once again after being charged with failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards at Selangor on Sunday, May 5.
At the conclusion of the inquiry, Shafiq, the rider of ARC TRIUMPH, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the stewards.
The particulars of the charge state that in Race 8 at the Selangor Turf Club, he failed to ride ARC TRIUMPH with satisfactory vigor, determination, and urgency in the straight despite having the opportunity to do so when his mount was in contention. ARC TRIUMPH finished fourth, beaten by 4.25 lengths.
In assessing the penalty, the stewards took into consideration Shafiq’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record, and his submissions on penalty.
He was suspended from riding in races for a period of 2 months, with the effect from May 6, 2024, to expire on July 5, 2024, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal.
