Greeff can add another East Cape Derby to his list

The East Cape Derby meeting is one of the premium events at Fairview and although only eight runners are carded to contest this Listed race over 2400m, it remains an intriguing affair.

Trainer Alan Greeff holds a very strong hand in the race with two three-year-olds who continue to improve.

Fairy Knight has won his last four starts and will have stable jockey Richard Fourie in the irons. The Global View gelding is unbeaten in three starts since having been gelded.

He has a lifetime record of 12 starts for his six wins but has yet to be tested over further than 1600m and his breeding suggests 2400m may be beyond him.

He may, however, just be better than his rivals.

Stable companion, filly Joy And Peace, on the other looks likely to relish the step up in distance.

This Master Of My Fate filly was costly to follow earlier in her career but the further she has gone the better she has looked and she was an emphatic winner of her latest start over 2000m on the Polytrack.

On that occasion, it was only rival in this race, Amazing Colours, who even attempted to chase her down in the closing stages and was still 1.75 lengths adrift at the line.

Amazing Colours could prefer this longer distance and is not completely out of it.

There is another feature race on this programme, Race 6, the Listed Dahlia Plate for Juveniles over 1200m, and it looks highly competitive.

Trainer Gavin Smith could have the upper hand in this particular event, however, which one of his runners is open to question.

Kingdundee, with Craig Zackey up, may be the best of his runners. This son of The United States impressed when beating winners on debut and showed signs of inexperience when defeated by unbeaten Splicethemainbrace last time out.

Third time out he should be ready for his best performance.

Stable companions Family Law, Silvonian and Happy Holly will all have their supporters.

Family Law quickened like a good horse when winning on debut but did not repeat it last time out.

Silvonian was unlucky on debut then was caught by Family Law in his second start. He was a winner third time out and the horse he beat has won in Gauteng after that.

Happy Holly is clearly a very game filly as she has been involved in three very close finishes to date. She was narrowly beaten by Splicethemainbrace on two occasions so on collateral form she should be a player.

Interestingly, Greef has opted for Havana Grey to represent the yard so one has to take notice.

This Heavenly Blue filly was touched off on debut and won her second start. Both runs were on the Polytrack and she is open to improvement with Fourie retaining the ride.
