Race 7 – 7 CHANCHENG GLORY

His sixth in the Derby was better than it reads, given that he was on-pace in the fast-run 2000m event and under pressure from the 700m. He held second position until the 150m, at which point those from the back swooped in, and he was eventually beaten by 4.5 lengths. Returning to his best distance will better suit his chances. Boasting tactical versatility will also hold him in good stead.

Race 9 – 6 GRAND BOSS

This NZ$250K yearling purchase has shown some potential at the trials but he was unwanted in the betting when making his race track debut over 1200m two weeks ago. He drew widest in gate 14 on that occasion, steadied to the rear and was given a quiet time. In the straight, he was held up for some time and also raced greenly inside the final 400m, needing the run. With that run under the belt, he could be one to show improvement second-up.

Sectional Time Stars

Race 1 – 8 PERFECT PEACH

This 5YO will be on his fifth attempt in Class 5, and recent runs have been encouraging. However, last start, he was unsuited over 1200m, and from a wide barrier, he was ridden quietly but did his best work late, finishing in fifth position. The return to 1400m is key to his chances here.

Race 10 – 10 BEAUTY MISSILE

He has been turning in some good runs in recent starts, but he was ridden for luck from the wide alley last time. In an on-pace dominated race, he was strong against the race shape into seventh. It won’t be a surprise to see him fighting out the fi nish should the jockey be able to map closer.
