Saturday Ipoh Track Spy
Race 3 Number 7 SIR ELTON
Showing improvement with two consecutive seconds in his last two starts at this track and distance, despite drawing awkwardly on both occasions, he was pushed early to secure a favourable position near the front and stuck on well late with great tenacity. Being allocated with an advantageous weight, he looks ready to break through.
Race 5 Number 6 SPEEDY MISSILE
Arguably, he was outclassed in the G1 Tunku Gold Cup last start – as his starting price of $475 suggests – however, he still ran a bold race. On that occasion, he was slow to begin and settled last. It was an on-pace dominated race but he was the eye-catcher against the race shape. He could be one to surprise.
Race 9 Number 1 AMORE AMORE
Start to follow this seven-year-old as he drops into Class 5 for the first time on his seventh local start. Though his last run may read poorly, he has still been finding the line well after slow starts. Based on his Singapore Class 5 record, he has more than it takes to be competitive here.
Race 10 Number 6 BULLSEYE
He was backed into a $24 favourite last start, but the slow tempo of the race didn’t do him a favour as he settled off the speed after jumping from a wide draw. Nevertheless, he still attacked the line strongly to check into fourth over this track and distance, which was against the race shape.
Sunday Selangor Track Spy
Race 1 Number 4 PACIFIC PRIME
His unplaced effort last start was better than it reads when a tardy start put him on the back foot in an on-pace dominated race. To his credit, he still found the line well to fi nish seventh over 1200m. The form has since been franked with the winner UPTOWN GIRL scoring a double subsequently, so it is worth giving him another chance this week.
Race 5 Number 8 PACIFIC DIAMOND
His fifth-place finish in his last start had merit to it. He was slow to begin on that occasion and settled towards the rear. Additionally, he raced wide and without cover throughout the 1275m journey on a yielding surface. Despite being beaten by nine lengths, it was a good run under the circumstances. Taking a rise in distance here, he looks like one who could improve.
Race 6 Number 3 LIM’S BETTERREADY
Starting from barrier 10 last time, he was forced to race wide and without cover throughout. However, he still fought gamely in the straight but was also hampered at the 250m mark, which cost him some momentum before he had to switch off heels. Once clear, he attacked the line well and was only beaten by 1.5 lengths.
Race 8 Number 9 QIJI STAR
He received heavy market support but had no luck last time out when racing three-wide on the speed, which left him with nothing in the tank entering the straight, beaten 7.75 lengths into fifth over 1150m. He is suited by the drop in distance, and with a better-timed ride, he can make amends for his last-start defeat.
