PERAK RACE PREVIEW SUN 19 MAY
Another challenging card is in store for punters this Sunday as the Perak Turf Club hosts an eight-race program.
Racing will commence with the Class 4 Dancing Lady Handicap over the 1100m straight course. Promising three-year-old STARLIGHT GLIMMER (5) should benefit from his exposure to this course last Saturday. The gelding finished midfield, beaten 2.5 lengths, but will be hard to beat if he recaptures his best form.
HEARTS OF GOLD (3) is another versatile and speedy type capable of running a forward race. The six-year-old was outclassed in the G1 Perak Derby last month but will appreciate the drop in class and distance.
VINCENT’S STAR (2) is a two-time winner in Australia who will strip fitter second up from his fifth-place finish in KL on April 21, where STARLIGHT GLIMMER (5) finished second in the same race.
JOKER NINE SIX (1) resumes and has won first up previously, while BUSINESS VENTURE (7) looked sharp in his trial win during the week.
Race 1 Selections: (5) STARLIGHT GLIMMER (3) HEARTS OF GOLD (2) VINCENT’S STAR (1) JOKER NINE SIX
The 1300m Carnation Handicap (Race 4) is the other Class 4 race on the program, featuring several winning chances. The T. Asogan stablemates, GOLDEN SHOW (4) and STORM TO WIN (6), back up from their respective performances last weekend as they try to break through at Class 4 level.
Top weight SUSPICIOUS MIND (1) has a good record over this distance and will be competitive, while SEAMLESSLY (5) is an interesting newcomer first up from Singapore and was a 1400m winner there late last year.
STRONG N POWERFUL (3) has dropped back to an almost career-low in ratings points and is one for the trifectas.
Race 4 Selections: (4) GOLDEN SHOW (1) SUSPICIOUS MIND (6) STORM TO WIN (5) SEAMLESSLY
FLYING SPIDER (3) is a chance to bounce back in the 1100m Gerbera Handicap (Race 8). The six-year-old led and was overhauled over 1200m here last Saturday and appears suited dropping back to the “B” division of Class 5.
SIVAJI ROCKET (2) was heavily supported following a long run of moderate efforts and once again has claims in a race that lacks depth. THE SWAN (4) is also better suited dropping back to this journey and will strip fitter second up.
TILSWORTH MALI (5) is a mare that can be hard to catch at times but can win at value, while NATUREISSPEAKING (6) is a fast beginner capable of finally breaking the maiden tag for the new stable.
Race 8 Selections: (3) FLYING SPIDER (2) SIVAJI ROCKET (4) THE SWAN (5) TILSWORTH MALI
