SELANGOR RACE PREVIEW – SUN 26 MAY
One of Malaysia’s premier juveniles returns this Sunday at Selangor Turf Club. US Navy Flag’s three-year-old, MILITARY FLAG (2), will compete in the 1275m Class 3 contest (Race 4). With an impressive record of 4 wins from 6 starts, the Simon Dunderdale-trained gelding has defied all obstacles on his rise through the grades since debuting in December. Coming off an impressive 1250m win from a wide barrier on April 14, the talented galloper should be primed following his trial on Tuesday morning.
PACIFIC EMPIRE (6) is a progressive type and was unlucky not to score in his first run in Class 3 company, finishing a nose second after attempting to lead throughout. The 5-year-old is a fast beginner who will be prominent for a long way.
HEART OF FIRE (4) hasn’t started since suffering from a respiratory problem on March 17, but he indicated he may be one to watch first up following his ten-length trial win Tuesday a week ago.
WAR SNIPER (10) is another fast beginner who broke through in a Class 4 contest three weeks ago and should handle the rise in grade.
RED OCEAN (5) will be backing up for the third week in succession and seems to have recaptured his best form, finishing third here last Sunday when he raced wide throughout.
Race 4 Selections: (2) MILITARY FLAG, (6) PACIFIC EMPIRE, (4) HEART OF FIRE, (10) WAR SNIPER
The value bet could be FIRST BOWL (9), who appears well-weighted in the 1100m Class 4B event (Race 6). Following two runs since returning to Malaysia, the 8-year-old is well-drawn and will benefit from the claim for apprentice I. Fikri.
BALIN (2) has been a model of consistency and is nearly due to break through in this grade.
IRON SAMURAI (4) has failed eight times at Class 4 level previously but has rapidly improved with race experience over the past twelve months. A forward showing would not surprise on the upgrade.
ROGER ROGER (3) finished runner-up to IRON SAMURAI prior to breaking his maiden tag here on May 5 and should not be underestimated at his first run in this grade.
PERFECT MISSION (6) trialed well during the week and is worth watching second up.
Race 6 Selections: (9) FIRST BOWL, (2) BALIN, (4) IRON SAMURAI, (3) ROGER ROGER
