With the national general elections due in the week, Hollywoodbets Greyville hosts a rare Monday meeting on the poly where punters are faced with a competitive card.
In the card opener, there are a number of visiting trainers in a Maiden Handicap. Sean Tarry saddles top weight And Action who has been coming along the right way and the switch to the poly could bring out the best. Doin’ Time is a struggling maiden but looks well weighted in this Maiden Handicap. Mister Nibbles has been trying further and was a beaten favourite over a mile last time out but does seem better over the shorter distances at this stage of his career. Glamorz takes on males but is never far back and should feature again. Others with chances are Bregart and Captain Jim.
In the second, Nazare made sudden improvement to win last time out but he was not friendless in the market which suggests that Candice Dawson has found the key. Shoefella has been a little disappointing but has first-time blinkers which could see him improve while Count Marsh was not far back to stronger last run with the blinkers back on. This trip should suit as he has dropped in the handicap. Brass Bell was a winner last Wednesday but was being aimed at this race. He can follow up.
The third is another tricky maiden but juveniles Nautical Landing and Ladies World NAUTICAL could hold sway even from their wide draws. Nautical Landing has put in two smart efforts on the poly and stays the trip and Ladies World made a promising local debut against males and is sure to improve on that showing. Flying Reign Storm goes well over course and distance and is a must include in all calculations while City Lights comes with consistent Highveld form but her best recent effort has been on the poly which makes her a big runner.
In another conditional maiden, Moremi Gorge is way better than his last effort. Although he has patchy Cape form at best he should make a race of it in this line-up. Incredible Indrani has been coming along the right way on the Highveld and although taking on males she should run a forward race. Torix Night has been a bit of a nightmare for Mike Miller who has expected more from him but this looks to be the right race although stable rider Tristan Godden has opted for Code Of Conduct who is on the up-grade.
Crepuscolo could be a value bet in the fifth as he has been racing in feature company with mixed results. Blinkers for the first time with a light weight he must come into the reckoning. Ancient World has been racing in useful company of late and can take advantage of a drop in class. Pas De Nom made a promising poly debut when touched off in a useful field and a repeat should see him close again while Player makes his poly debut and won well last time out. He boasts a smart record and the switch to poly could see him go in again
The Appleofmyeye has been knocking on the door over further and could be one of the better bets on the card. She should much prefer this shorter trip. Elegant Act had a tricky draw last run and this looks to be her optimum trip while Light Of Day showed up well first run on the poly. She has drawn wide under a big weight but has a 4kg claimer up.
In the seventh, Rugger Lover has smart form over a furlong shorter and should make a bold bid in this field. Beautiful Rania shed her maiden at second time of asking. She has a light weight and looks progressive. Conta Fiscum is way better than her last run. At best she has a big chance.
The last is another wide open handicap. Moya Wa Lalinga made a smart return from the Cape when close-up on the poly last run. A repeat should see him competitive. Gimme A Rainbow won well when switched to the poly and although he got a four-point raise in the handicap he has a good draw and he took to the poly. John Wick has come on nicely at his last two and should be at his peak. If he take to the poly he will be a big runner as will be Purple Operator who, although he has a wide draw, is back over his preferred trip and goes well on the synthetic surface.
