Snaith four-timer, Fourie treble on Kenilworth card

There are several ways to strike it rich on Sunday’s (2 June) bumper 10-race card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, including a Jackpot carryover of R250,000 which should see the Jackpot One pool reach as much as R1 million.

There is also a good chance trainer Justin Snaith will saddle four winners on the day, with jockeys JP van der Merwe, Aldo Domeyer and Richard Fourie likely to ride a winner each for Cape Town’s leading stable.

Fourie, who is quickly closing in on Anthony Delpech’s record number of victories (334) in a season, has a typically strong book of rides that includes two other attractive betting propositions – the first of those being Glen Kotzen-trained Worldly in the opener.

This One World colt posted his career-best performance under Fourie when finishing third over 1000m on 20 April. He ran well in defeat against older rivals over 1200m last month, especially having conceded 3kg to the more-experienced four-year-old winner who beat Kotzen’s charge by just 3.80 lengths.

His return to that course and distance in Race 1 against his contemporaries with a tongue-tie fitted and Fourie in the irons makes Worldly a good win bet.

So too is highly regarded two-year-old colt Roman Agent who Fourie rides for Snaith in Race 4 over 1400m. Grant van Niekerk has ridden this grey son of Vercingetorix in each of his appearances – winning twice – but Fourie takes over the reins aboard the well-bred youngster who, after an encouraging comeback third over 1100m, is expected to improve for the step-up in trip.

And if Roman Agent is to win Leg 1 of Sunday’s Pick 6, then Lion Rampart can be confidently backed to win Race 8, the Listed Somerset 1200, in which Vaughan Marshall holds a strong hand with a formidable coupling.

Preference, however, is for One World colt Lion Rampart who has improved in three starts with blinkers fitted. He finished ahead of Roman Agent when second to One Stripe in the Grade 3 Winter Nursery over 1100m last time out. Lion Rampart (fourth) also fared better than Roman Agent (eighth) in the 1200m Grade 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery won by One Stripe on 24 February.

Stated (Race 3) and last-start winner Gimmelightning (Race 9) are Van der Merwe’s best chances of victory on the day. The latter was rewarded for his consistency with a 1200m success in his latest outing and the minimum two-point penalty is not likely to halt the Snaith-trained gelding’s momentum.

The stable’s veteran sprinter, Rio Querari, will represent generous each-way value under Domeyer in Race 7 and is worth chancing to reverse the form of a recent 1100m defeat to Questioning, even on identical weight terms, over 1200m.

Eric Sands-trained Senhora Victoria is also good value to deliver the goods under Domeyer when she lines up in Race 10 from gate No 5. This Master Of My Mate mare has, despite finishing unplaced in consecutive course-and-distance appearances, caught the eye on both occasions by running on well to finish just 3.75 lengths and 1.90 lengths off the winner. She races off a rating that is below her last-winning mark and is favourably drawn this time so should give her followers a good run for their money at generous odds.
