PENANG RACE PREVIEW – SAT 8 JUNE
RACE 1 DOGE TO THE MOON (4) has been testing the patience of his followers with a string of minor placings. The 8-year-old gets his chance to break a four-year drought on the minimum weight.
STARHARMONY (1) goes up 3kg from his five-length win here at the last meeting and has a chance to repeat the feat.
PENANG MAN (3) has won all four of his races at this track and closed off well when placed over 1300m despite a cut hind leg last start.
LEEDSTHEWAY (5) is a one-paced type who had every chance last time but is capable of winning if he hits his best form.
Selections: (4) DOGE TO THE MOON, (1) STARHARMONY, (3) PENANG MAN, (5) LEEDSTHEWAY
RACE 2 AYAAN has been languishing at the bottom end of Class 5 for several months but can bounce back on his former home track despite not winning since March 2021.
SUPER WHIRLWIND is still a maiden but has shown rapid improvement in two starts for the William Looi stable.
LISBOA STAR has been winless for over two years but faces a standard lineup, while WINNING SMILE was a beaten favorite at Ipoh and can also break a two-and-a-half-year winning drought.
Selections: (2) AYAAN, (6) SUPER WHIRLWIND, (10) LISBOA STAR, (7) WINNING SMILE
RACE 3 FLYING SPIDER (3), PENANG STAR (6), and BIG POWER (4) filled the trifecta in a Class 5 race at the last meeting and could do the same this Saturday.
BIG POWER (4) might have a slight advantage at the weights from the last meeting and may come out on top.
FLYING SPIDER (3) has won two out of four in Penang but goes up 4.5kg from that recent win.
PENANG STAR (6) powered home to finish a neck second behind FLYING SPIDER (3) and gains a weight advantage with 52kg.
JULIUS CAESAR (1) returned to winning form and cannot be discounted despite the 59kg.
Selections: (4) BIG POWER, (3) FLYING SPIDER, (6) PENANG STAR, (1) JULIUS CAESAR
RACE 4 GRAND CHOICE (2) trialed well in KL Tuesday two weeks ago and can atone for his last start defeat. The 9-year-old has a good record in this class and handles the Penang circuit very well.
Locally trained galloper GHOST MARI (1) has early pace and has been contesting tougher races recently. The class drop will work in the four-year-old’s favor.
EXDREAM (3) hasn’t been far away in two starts down the Ipoh straight track and is back to a winnable rating.
Stablemate GEORGETOWN (5) failed to fire last start but closed off well when placed in his previous performance.
Selections: (2) GRAND CHOICE, (1) GHOST MARI, (3) EXDREAM, (5) GEORGETOWN
