At the conclusion of an inquiry into the running and handling of QIJI DIAMOND, who finished third in Race 3 at Ipoh on Sunday, jockey App A Azizi, in the presence of his master, Trainer NM Selvan, was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

The specifics of the charge are as follows:

From the 400-metre mark to the finish line, he failed to ride with sufficient vigor and determination, despite his mount running strongly.

In determining the penalty, the Panel of Stewards considered App A Azizi’s riding record and mitigating factors. As a result, App A Azizi has been suspended from riding in races for four months, effective from 17th June 2024 to 16th October 2024, inclusive of both dates. Additionally, he has been fined RM20,000 (Malaysian Ringgit Twenty Thousand only). He was informed of his right to appeal.

Trainer NM Selvan, the trainer of QIJI DIAMOND, was found guilty of violating MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for misconduct, specifically for condoning the contentious ride by App A Azizi on QIJI DIAMOND. He has been fined RM10,000 (Malaysian Ringgit Ten Thousand only) and was also informed of his right to appeal.
