My Boy Lollipop looks a sweet bet

Trainer Frank Robinson runs MY BOY LOLLIPOP in Race 1 – the DOWNLOAD THE RACE CARD ONLINE www.goldcircle.co.za MAIDEN JUVENILE PLATE at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday 23 June 2024.

There look to be some fair bets on the Hollywoodbets Scottsville card come Sunday starting in the first where Frank Robinson’s My Boy Lollipop should prove difficult to beat barring any ‘springers’ amongst the first timers.

My Boy Lollipop was involved in a tight finish with the well-fancied Definitely Yes at Scottsville last Sunday where the balance were well beaten. A repeat should see him difficult to beat. Of those that have run, Got The Word made a promising debut at lengthy odds for Garth Puller and the experience will count in his favour. Don’t Judge was not far back on debut and that form has been franked. Kom Naidoo has three runners, best of which could be the first-timer Finalmente.

In the second, a Maiden Plate over 1600m Izibulo was touched off when jumping to 1800m last time out. She was well supported in the betting and can go one better for Garth Puller and Richard Fourie. Danger could be Glen Kotzen’s runner Laugh Till I Cry who found good market support in her debut sprint. She was well beaten but that experience should count in her favour and she should much prefer this trip from the best of the draw. Grand Occasion was a close-up third on the poly last run and the extra furlong did suit. She should go well here. Safe And Sound can do better than her last outing and the step up in trip will suit.

Dean Kannemeyer will be looking to Rhydian to go one better after a string of second placings. He has been run out of it late in his only three starts but the form has held up and he should be able to go one better although he does face some useful opposition. Gold Rush Kid has shown up well in two sprints and from a good draw over a better trip he should make a bold effort. View Of The World has shown up well in his first two starts and the trip will suit while Ingqwele showed some improvement last run on the Highveld where he did find some market support. He could be coming to hand for Mike de Kock.

Frikkie Greyling has his only runner on the day in Hurricane Cat who made good improvement at her second start. Both her starts have been over course and distance. Ruby Rising was much improved second time out and any further improvement will see her close again for Duncan Howells. Edge Of Tomorrow looks held by Hurricane Cat on their last meetings but she is improving fast and can turn the tables. Blowin In The Wind disappointed when going the turn for the first time. She is much better than her last run and back to a straight course could bring out the best.

The fifth is a tricky maiden but Flying Cool was well fancied last time out by Gary Rich and has been close-up in all four starts. The blinkers go on and he can make the required improvement. There was very little separating Landseer and Dapper when last they met. They both step up to a mile and the betting could be your best guide on these two. Rototo was a little disappointing last time out and can improve while Captain Marsala has been run out of it close home at his last two and must also have strong claims.

That’s My Baby won a tight contest last time out and that form has been franked. This is her third run after a lengthy lay-off and she appeals as a strong chance in the sixth. Zinikele has the widest draw but she is in good form and goes well this trip.  The blinkers appear to have done the trick. Sovereign Grant was just under two lengths behind That’s My Baby when last they met. She is 2.5kg kg better off in the handicap which could bring them a lot closer together. Vision To Achieve steps up in trip after showing improvement last time out. The blinkers are back on and she has a money chance.

Michael Roberts saddles Philispeil in a competitive handicap but the gelding goes well over course and distance and looks to be well in at the weights. Jet Legacy is lightly raced but has shown up well in two runs back from lengthy lay-offs for Alyson Wright who is trying hard for the KZN Trainer’s Championship. Celtic Chief was a recent maiden winner for Andre Nel first up in KZN and should be competitive.  While Trafalgar Square has shown his best recent form on the poly track but Richard Fourie has stayed with the ride which could prove significant.

Khethiwe’s Destiny can round off the day as Mike De Kock’s charge has made steady improvement leading to her maiden win at just her second start. She meets a modest field and can follow up. Rafeef’s Choice is back to a sprint but has some useful form over the trip and looks a big threat. Maggie Smith found one too good last run but with Fourie staying with the ride she must have a strong chance of going one better. One Smart Cookie was a recent maiden winner and has improved in blinkers. She also has some useful form on this course.
