SELANGOR RACE PREVIEW SUN 30 JUNE

The RM80,000 2024 SLTC 4 Year Old Sprint (Race 7) will headline the eleven-race card at Selangor this Sunday, with the rail out 4m on Course A.

Locally unbeaten in his two starts, POPEYETHESAILORMAN (7) faces his biggest test as he attempts to emulate the efforts of two stablemates who scored first up during last Sunday’s meeting. Prepared by former jockey Marcus Teh, POPEYETHESAILORMAN (7) resumes from a three-month break, and his early pace should place him in good stead.

However, there are numerous runners in this Listed contest with an abundance of gate speed, and HEART OF FIRE (2) is no exception. The 4-year-old has won two from four locally and was back to his best with an all-the-way win over 1275m on May 26.

GOLDEN PEGASUS (4) (formerly Magic Turbo) has undergone a name and ownership change and joins the Wayne Lim stable. The 4-year-old is yet to win this season but has finished close behind the smart Super Happy in his past two outings.

FATAL ATTRACTION (6) justified his market support when resuming for the informed Simon Dunderdale yard, delivering a 1.25-length victory over 1400m on June 9. The former Australian can strike again at good odds this time.

IRON SAMURAI (1) and YOU THINK SO (9) are both chasing winning hat tricks and are worthy trifecta chances, while recent maiden winner GULF EAGLE (12) may spring up as a place chance.

Race 7 Selections: (2) HEART OF FIRE, (7) POPEYETHESAILORMAN, (4) GOLDEN PEGASUS, (6) FATAL ATTRACTION

SUPER HAPPY (6) and GAMESTONKS (3) finished 3rd and 5th respectively in the G1 Ipoh Gold Vase two weeks back and are set for a rematch in the 1200m ANZ Bloodstock Trophy (Race 5). SUPER HAPPY (6) remains unbeaten in four starts over the 1200m journey, and that trend can continue with the KC Tiang-trained gelding in career-best form.

Super Happy.
Super Happy.

GAMESTONKS (3) is also a talented sprinter with a local record of eight wins from fifteen starts and should be a prominent figure for a long way, as he likes to rush from the barriers in search of a forward position.

TITAN PEGASUS (8) is coming off a short break and will drop 7kg after the claim from his last performance when placed behind SUPER HAPPY (6) here on May 5.

WHITE HOOF BIRD (4) resumes from a six-month spell and possesses a good first-up record. The 7-year-old closed off well in his barrier trial on Tuesday.

GINGERELLA (2) returned from an eight-month break when leading throughout over 1150m recently and also has claims.

Race 5 Selections: (6) SUPER HAPPY, (3) GAMESTONKS, (8) TITAN PEGASUS, (4) WHITE HOOF BIRD

Another galloper unbeaten in Malaysia is the former Singaporean TRIBUTO (10), who has impressed in his two Class 4 wins and should measure up in the 1200m Class 3 contest (Race 6). The gelding’s winning margins were 4.25L and 3.5L and appears on cue for the hat trick despite the class upgrade.

NO REGRETS (4) has won nine times over 1200m and maintains a good Class 3 record, while PACIFIC EMPIRE (5) is on the seven-day backup and is racing well this campaign. TAU KEH SOH (9) is also competitive at this level and normally races best when placed on speed.

Race 6 Selections: (10) TRIBUTO, (4) NO REGRETS, (5) PACIFIC EMPIRE, (9) TAU KEH SOH
