The Paul Messara & Le Gavranich-trained KNOW THYSELF looks to be a formidable contender in the $300,000 Group 3 Winx Guineas over 1600m at the Sunshine Coast Racecourse this Saturday.
A three-time winner from four starts, KNOW THYSELF has established himself as a highly competitive three-year-old in New South Wales. The Autumn Sun gelding resumed with a close second at Canterbury in late May before returning to his best at Rosehill last time out, drawing away to score an astonishing win by more than five lengths over 1400m.
KNOW THYSELF appears to be on an upward trajectory, and based on the strength of his last win, he should have an edge over his peers as he makes his Queensland debut this week. Therefore, a first Group victory looks within his reach.
Champion trainer Chris Waller will be confident that talented three-year-old PURE ALPHA can extend his purple patch of form in the $160,000 BM78 race over 1400m at Randwick racecourse this Saturday.
PURE ALPHA has yet to miss the frame from four starts, including two wins. Following a close second at Warwick Farm two starts back, the Ardrossan gelding was heavily supported and duly saluted with a facile victory in a BM72 1400m race last time out, suggesting he has plenty of upside.
While PURE ALPHA stands out as a strong winning chance this week, the main danger appears to be the promising four-year-old RHAPSODY CHIC, who has been on a winning streak of two in Victoria and is aiming for a hat-trick of wins as he ventures into New South Wales.
