Apprentice Jockey S Jamil has been disqualified for a period of one year following an inquiry on Wednesday, 10 July 2024.
An inquiry into the handling of AXEL in Race 9 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on 7 July 2024 was opened on Wednesday, 10 July 2024. The inquiry was adjourned before any evidence was taken to allow a Court Certified Interpreter to assist App S Jamil. It reconvened on Thursday, 11 July 2024, where evidence was presented from App Jamil, with the assistance of a Court Certified Interpreter, and Mr. Jasuli Bin Sulaiman, Assistant Trainer to Trainer D Logan, the master of App Jamil and trainer of AXEL.
At the conclusion of the inquiry, App Jamil was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(8) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that AXEL was given full opportunity to win or achieve the best possible placing. The particulars of the charge included his failure to ride AXEL with sufficient vigor or determination over the final 400 meters when it was reasonable and permissible to do so.

In determining the penalty, the Stewards considered the serious nature of the charge, App Jamil’s record, personal circumstances, and precedent penalties. As a result, he was disqualified for one year, effective immediately from Thursday, 11 July 2024, to Thursday, 10 July 2025, both dates inclusive, in accordance with MRA Rule 44(8)(a). Additionally, he was fined S$10,000 and advised of his right to appeal.
