However, it could pay to side with SURGE OF POWER who probably has superior fitness on his side after finishing 4th in a 2yo Grade 3 over 1500m last month. The latter proved himself effective over this shorter trip in 3 previous starts so ought to play a leading role. RATTLESNAKE and WORLDY are also likely to acquit themselves competitively, having run well in post-maiden outings over a shorter trip.

UNSUNG HERO, NOBLE HERO and TORRES are open to improvement trying this extended trip for the first time, so aren’t taken lightly. The same could be said of returning TIME HONORED who attracted betting support on debut 4 months ago. JOUEUR DE FLUTE could also get involved if taking his place.

She would’ve benefitted appreciably from that outing and her progress could be worth following. He needn’t improve much to open his account. LUCY ROCKET and MANEKI NEKO have the form and experience to pose a threat. They’re closely matched on recent form although the former should confirm her superiority on these weight terms. PALACE GIFT, after an improved last start, and LET IT BE SAID, who had excuses on debut, could also make their presence felt.

MAJOR APOLLO, TRIPPI’S SILK and WYLIE JACK finished behind the selection in a course-and-distance contest on 21 May and they ought to be competitive on these revised weight terms. Consistent fillies PALO QUEEN and SILVER SCREEN are favourably treated by the conditions of the race and are likely to give another honest account. SHE’S MY CAPTAIN does all her winning under Fourie and has to be respected.

Fillies WUGUG and GO LIKE FLO could, however, give the selection most to fear. Both are favourably treated by the conditions (ratings/weights) of the race and they’re also closely matched on collateral form. UNICORN ALERT and MONT LOISIR complete the shortlist.

A mere 2.60 lengths separated 2nd from 6th and there shouldn’t be much between them again on these revised terms. It could, however, pay to side with well-related STEINBECK who caught the eye when running on from a long way back to finish 2nd over 1400m on his return from a 5-month absence. He would’ve tightened up with the benefit of that outing and this extended trip should be more to his liking.

SANSA STARK has an earlier engagement but judged on the strength of her form should play a leading role if taking her place. ENGLISH MISTRESS has been costly to follow but a return to 1600m without the blinkers could work the oracle.
