It could be Domeyer, or Pritti v’d Merwe

Aldo Domeyer and JP v’d Merwe are the jockeys to follow at Cape Racing’s midweek fixture at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Tuesday 13 August.

The latter added the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July aboard Oriental Charm to his other two top-level successes last term aboard Gimme A Nother.

Since relocating to Cape Town, v’d Merwe has formed a potent partnership with Justin Snaith and their success should continue on the eight-race card.

Domeyer, on the other hand, still boots home the winners with regularity despite relinquishing his position as stable jockey to Candice Bass-Robinson in order to get more freelance rides. He retains a good relationship with the trainer, and the pair will likely enjoy success together at the meeting.

Snaith’s onslaught begins in Race 1 with two runners in the 1100m Work Riders’ maiden where his best chance of winning is in the hooves of Rafeef-gelding Rafa Bay. The three-year-old need only confirm his last-start form to break his duck.

Improving I’m So Pritti fits a similar profile and this Vercingetorix-filly needn’t improve much to open her account in Race 2 under v’d Merwe, having finished an encouraging second over 1250m in her last start 19 days ago.

Champion Sire Gimmethegreenlight is represented by his three-year-old daughter In The Green Zone in Race 4 over 1200m and it could pay to follow the progress of this consistent Snaith-trained filly who backed up her maiden victory with a creditable second over 1250m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville.

Domeyer partners In The Green Zone for the first time but should have little trouble pointing the promising three-year-old filly in the right direction as she is an uncomplicated ride who’s natural speed will stand her in good stead.

Bass-Robinson saddles a four-pronged attack in Race 7 over 1800m and, having won aboard each of the stable’s quartet of runners, it’s probably worth noting that Domeyer prefers to ride consistent Canford Cliffs filly Coulditbe over her three stable companions.

On the form of a recent course-and-distance meeting in a similar contest, last-start conqueror Among The Clouds is weighted to confirm her superiority on 0.5kg better terms, but with Domeyer taking over the reins from young Joshwin Solomons, Coulditbe is good value to avenge that defeat – with Heliotrope, Lickety Split and Supreme Dream others to include in Trifecta and Quartet bets.
