The 1400m Pordasi Goodwill Cup (Race 6) will headline the nine-race program at Perak Turf Club on Sunday commencing at 12.45pm.
Like the rest of the Sunday card of racing, this event contains numerous winning chances. LOOKS GOOD (4) is racing in peak form this year with 4 wins from 8 starts and is in line for the hat trick after breaking through at Class 4 level here at the last meeting. However, the 5.5kg rise in the weights could be a disadvantage in the open lineup. PERFECT MISSION could be rewarded with his consistency despite finishing 3rd as a beaten favourite in KL last start. The 7yo has improved his barrier manners recently as is a previous winner on this track. DISCRETELY RED (9) won successive races here in June and was heavily backed when hampered at his last run. The 11yo goes well at the 1400m (6 wins) and is a proven wet tracker. SALAAM NAMASTEY (2) is still a maiden and makes his local debut for trainer Kevin Coetzee. The former Kiwi galloper was placed once from eight starts in New Zealand and has shown potential in the local trials. MANDRAKE (5) does tend to mix his form and but is capable on his day while GOLDEN LIGHTNING (12) ran 3rd to LOOKS GOOD (4) here before different riding tactics were adopted at his most recent effort in KL when finishing unplaced.
Selections: (10) PERFECT MISSION (9) DISCRETELY RED (4) LOOKS GOOD (2) SALAAM NAMASTEY
The other division of the Class 4 (Race 1) looks ideal for EXDREAM (1) to quickly atone for his defeat in KL two weeks ago. The 9yo worked hard initially to take a forward position from barrier 10 and was far from disgraced when finishing a close 3rd, a long neck from the winner. Former UK galloper, THE MAMBA (5) was placed 3rd at his Malaysian debut before he was outclassed in a heat of the SLTC 4YO Series on June 30. The 4yo has been freshened and can surprise at decent odds. FA FA STAR (2) should start to recapture his better form on the downgrade despite the 59kg and wide barrier. FLYING BABY (11) maintained consistent form during his last campaign and will be first up since May. The only query is the 9yo has not won a Class 4 race since November 2020. Former Australian, GLORIOUS BISCUIT (4) trialled well recently and would appreciate the drop in class also while STRETCHY FOUR (8) is capable of winning on best form.
Selections: (1) EXDREAM (5) THE MAMBA (2) FA FA STAR (11) FLYING BABY
