It’s hard to keep track of how many times jockey I Amirul has faced suspension for similar infractions, raising the question of why this pattern of behaviour continues.
The inquiry into the performance of COMMANDER JONES in Race 5 at the Singapore Turf Club meeting on Sunday, 11 August 2024, was concluded on Monday, 12 August 2024. After hearing evidence from jockey I Amirul and trainer KS Tan, the trainer of COMMANDER JONES, jockey Amirul was found guilty of breaching MRA Rule 44(10), which states:
“Any jockey who fails to ride his horse to the satisfaction of the Stewards may be warned, fined, and/or suspended.”
The specifics of the charge were that between the 500m and the 250m marks, jockey Amirul failed to ride his mount with sufficient vigour and determination when it was both reasonable and permissible to do so.
Number 4 Commander Jones jumped from barrier 2
In determining the penalty, the Stewards considered the nature of the charge, his previous record, personal circumstances, and similar cases. As a result, jockey I Amirul was suspended for six months, starting from Tuesday, 13 August 2024, to Wednesday, 12 February 2025, inclusive. He was informed of his right to appeal.
