Fangirl primed for the Winx Stakes

Fangirl

This year’s $1 million Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) features a stellar lineup of 12 contenders, with multiple Group 1 winner FANGIRL emerging as a standout.

As the defending champion, FANGIRL has raced only twice this year, but her performances have been impressive. Two starts ago, the Sebring mare scored an effortless first-up victory in the G2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) and followed with a commendable second-place finish in the G1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) in early March. Despite a slow tempo that favoured frontrunners, she made substantial ground late.

FANGIRL has looked strong in her recent trials, suggesting she is primed for this week’s race. With a significant advantage under the Weight For Age conditions, she appears poised to be a formidable contender first-up.

Quality French import ELIYASS is set to continue his impressive run after a break, making his return to Randwick in the $250,000 Group 3 National Jockeys Trust Premier’s Cup over 2000m this Saturday.

With a remarkable record of six wins and two placings from eight starts in France, ELIYASS has seamlessly brought his stellar form to Australia. He demonstrated his talent with an impressive debut win in the Listed Lord Mayors Cup in early June. Settling patiently in midfield that day, the son of Le Havre showcased an explosive turn of foot in the straight, surging past his rivals to win by 1.75 lengths over this track and distance.

After a 77-day break, ELIYASS has trialled well, showing notable improvement since his debut. With a decent draw, this promising stayer is poised to be a formidable contender.
