Broadsiding primed for Golden Rose first-up

This Saturday’s $1m Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens features an elite field of 11 three-year-olds, with star colt BROADSIDING taking center stage.

Resuming from a spell, BROADSIDING dominated the latter part of his autumn campaign, claiming two 1600m Group 1 victories—the Champagne Stakes and JJ Atkins. He has sharpened up for his three-year-old return with two impressive trials, and the fact that James McDonald has opted to ride him over several other options is a promising sign.

While BROADSIDING is a formidable contender in this week’s feature, his main threats appear to be stablemate TRAFFIC WARDEN, who impressed with a stylish first-up win in the G2 Run to the Rose, along with two quality rivals, STORM BOY and LINEBACKER.

In-form four-year-old gelding WATCH ME ROCK is poised to secure his fourth career win in the $80,000 Mrs Mac’s Handicap over 1400m at Belmont Racecourse this Saturday.

WATCH ME ROCK has missed the frame only once in eight starts, including three victories. The son of Awesome Rock won his first two starts this preparation before finishing a close second last time out, where he raced on pace from a wide draw and was narrowly caught in the final stride over 1300m at this track.

The slight rise in distance should suit WATCH ME ROCK even better, as he boasts an impressive record of two wins from three attempts over 1400m. With champion jockey William Pike retaining the ride, he can prove hard to beat.
