Smith should have a good day on the poly

There are just eight races and small fields for the Fairview Polytrack meeting on Monday, but trainer Gavin Smith has given it his full support and should have a good day.

It is always very difficult to pick his winners though, but it could start as early Race 1, a Conditional Maiden over 2200m, where Angel Of My Heart only has Crimson Comet to beat on her stable and Polytrack debut.

In Race 2, a Conditional Maiden over 1000m, battling Colonel Green gets an ideal opportunity to break the ice with a win.

The Gimmethegreenlight gelding has reached 16 starts without winning but showed improved pace last time out. The Polytrack course at Fairview has favoured front-runners of late and if he manages to pinch a big enough lead on his rivals he can keep going this time.

Stable companion Smart View also shows pace and could be a threat.

Smith has a decent hand in Race 3, a MR 62 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1100m, with Dawn Of Gold and Jambo Sana.

Dawn Of Gold did not show her best last time out but can bounce back to score. Jambo Sana, on the other hand, showed improvement when finishing strongly to pick up a second success.

She is carded to run on Friday and that run will need to be looked at but she has a winning chance if taking her place in this event.

Head Gardener in Race 6, a Classified Stakes over 2000m, is probably at his very best over 1600m but he was only caught late over the course and distance last time out and that was only the second time jockey Craig Zackey had ridden him.

He will know how to get the best out of him this time.
