Korea Racing Busan & Seoul Preview – 6 October

Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Small field but a competitive maiden, at least among the top two. (3) SAEROUN GUY has come progressively closer across four starts to date, culminating in a 2nd place over this distance on July 13th when slowly away and running on to beat a couple of today’s rivals. He’s had twelve weeks off since then so comes in fresh and has as good a chance as any. (5) GOLDEN JACKPOT ran a fair 4th place on debut at 1200M on July 14th, settling back and running on from a wide gate. He also comes in following twelve weeks out and shapes as the danger. (6) JILPUNG JAZZ has been only ordinary in his latest couple, but he does have a 3rd place on his recent record and that’s enough to put him in the minor money hunt here. (1) TALITHA CUMI and the second up after a spell (7) NEOMANEULWIHAESEO others who may improve.

Selections (3) Saeroun Guy (5) Golden Jackpot (6) Jilpung Jazz (1) Talitha Cumi

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(6) LUCKY FAMOUS ran a fair 4th on debut over 1200M on September 8th, overcoming a wide gate and running on well. It wasn’t a quick race, but he should have derived benefit from the run, and he can be a big factor here. (10) CHOCO BEAUTY is yet to finish any better than 4th but she has now done that three times in her latest four outings. She likes to come from off the pace and she will be charging home late here. (9) OPUS PURPLE will need a line drawn through her latest on September 3rd over 1700M. She has since been back to trial which he won on September 12th, and back in trip today, she can be given another chance. (1) BEAUTIFUL HWASEONG and (3) THUNDER LUCKY are the other placing chances.

Selections (6) Lucky Famous (10) Choco Beauty (9) Opus Purple (1) Beautiful Hwaseong

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

A very competitive maiden opens things on the south coast. (3) MR. WOLF didn’t do much on debut in July but was a much-improved 2nd at start number two on August 23rd, racing on pace. He was well beaten by a good winner but showed enough to suggest he can go one better himself. (2) BEOLMAUI ANGEL has run 3rd in both of his two starts so far, at 1000M and most recently at this distance on August 11th. He has raced on pace both times and draws well to do the same here and he may well start as the betting favourite. (4) CRAZY LEO has a 3rd and a 2nd from his two appearances to date, only narrowly going down over 1200M on August 30th. He has the fastest time among these for the distance and has as good a chance as any. (5) CANCAN STEP and (6) SAENAE HUNTER the others in the frame.

Selections (3) Mr. Wolf (2) Beolmaui Angel (4) Crazy Leo (5) Cancan Step

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

This could be anyone’s, even (7) APPLE STYLE. He came from off the pace to run 4th on debut over 1200M before running on too late at start number two over the same distance and only making it up to 7th. Third-up he can be peaking fitness-wise, and the additional trip may be just what he needs. Solitary debut-maker (5) WESTERN GUN looked well when winning a trial in July. It has taken a while for him to get to the races, but if he brings that form, he can go close first-up. (1) PROCEED has been steadily figuring things out across his latest couple of starts with a 4th and a 3rd at 1300M and 1400M. He draws nicely and can be getting closer still today. (9) CHEONJI MARKET and (2) YES MADAM among plenty of other placing chances.

Selections (7) Apple Style (5) Western Gun (1) Proceed (9) Cheonji Market
Next Best 2, 10

Busan Race 2: Class 4 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 75 Million

Nine maiden imports go around here. (5) GEUMA GUTTY won two trials and then beat three of today’s rivals on debut on August 30th when a touch slow away but then running on very strongly for 2nd behind an excellent winner over 1200M. Munro stays on, he should have come on for the run, and he may take some beating. There are three debut makers and a couple of them showed big potential in trials. (3) FLYING CROWN ran 2nd in a very fast hear on September 14th, coming from off the pace. The 1200M first-up should suit and he can be a danger. (1) SMART BOSS is a rare Japanese-bred here but went through two trials and was very good in both, finishing 3rd on both occasions in quick times. He draws very nicely and is another who can put in a bold first-up performance. (9) DRAGON REVENGER and (6) EOHWADUNGDUNG others with experience who may improve.

Selections (5) Geuma Gutty (3) Flying Crown (1) Smart Boss (9) Dragon Revenger
Next Best 6, 7
Fast Start 1, 2, 6, 9

Seoul Race 4: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies and mares only here. (5) LOVE MUNMAK took part in two legs of this year’s Triple Tiara, finishing 5th in the Korean Oaks and then 7th (of eight) in the Gyeonggi Governor’s Cup. She returned to regular company on August 31st, finishing 5th of eleven over 1700M but today she comes back to the distance at which she secured her only victory to date, and she can win again. (6) BIG BRIDGE is yet to win in seven starts but has no fewer than four runner-up finishes, including her latest two, both at this class over 1300M. She comes up to this trip for the first time and she is the danger. (10) WHIZ LOVER got her maiden win at this distance two starts back before finishing 5th on her first try at this class on August 25th. She only comes up 1kg and should be right in this. (3) GREEN FEELSTAR and (11) BRIGHT KAI may make for some appeal at probable each-way prices.

Selections (5) Love Munmak (6) Big Bridge (10) Whiz Lover (3) Green Feelstar
Next Best 11, 4

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(7) MAJESTIC DANCER enters off back-to-back 2nd place finishes at this class over 1300M and 1400M, most recently beating three of these on September 8th when settling midfield and quickly improving. He comes up 2kg in the weights but has every chance of going one better this time. Two starts back (5) BINNANEUNGIL laid out badly and got sent back to two trials. He came through them in fine style and returned to action on August 18th and won easily over 1300M. He resents the whip and while up in class here, the nature of that win – and the same jockey aboard – suggests he can measure up in this company. (3) NEVER GIVE UP remains a maiden but he has been working his way into competitiveness at this level and has two 2nd places at this distance. He carries a light weight and can be a threat. (8) SEUNGNI GITBAL and (9) GRAND DREAM, the latter having raced wide last time, are among others in the hunt.

Selections (7) Majestic Dancer (5) Binnaneungil (3) Never Give Up (8) Seungni Gitbal
Next Best 9, 4
Fast Start 1, 5, 6, 9

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(4) OSONGEUI BYEOL shapes as a warm favourite here. He is yet to win in nine starts but has a 2nd and a 3rd from his latest two both at this class and distance. He has taken well to racing at two turns and from a good gate and fairly weighted, he should be on or close to the pace and can go all the way. (3) HANGANG GLORY isn’t the most straightforward of types and he weakened on his first try at this distance on August 31st having led. He is though a winner at this class and on his day is the clear second pick. (5) HAPPY ICTUS steps up to two turns for the first time. She comes in having run 4th at this level over 1300M and under a light weight, her running style suggests she can make an impact. (2) YONGBI QUEEN and (8) PURPLE SHINHWA other placing chances.

Selections (4) Osongeui Byeol (3) Hangang Glory (5) Happy Ictus (2) Yongbi Queen
Next Best 8, 6
Fast Start 1, 2, 4, 5

Busan Race 4: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(10) OPEN SKY is two for two having scored on debut in June and then again on August 23rd, both at 1200M and both times leading all the way, the latter being an especially dominant score. That brings him up in class and he does draw a touch wider than ideal, but the manner of those victories suggests he can continue on his merry way.  If his run does end, (2) VOLCANO GRIT looks best placed to be the one to end it. He stepped up to this distance for the first time on August 11th and ran 3rd in a very quick race (on a track that was as fast as it has even been). He draws well and under a light weight, he is the danger. (6) AUTUMN BREEZE is a front runner who enters with recent form reading well, and she can be on pace and in this a long way again. (4) FANTASTIC DREAM and (5) CHARMING ACE others to consider.

Selections (10) Open Sky (2) Volcano Grit (6) Autumn Breeze (4) Fantastic Dream
Next Best 5, 7
Fast Start 6, 9, 10, 11

Seoul Race 6: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

(2) KHAN MAX didn’t show much in his trial, but he did when it mattered, running out a winner on debut over 1200M on August 31st when he settled just behind the speed and proved too strong. He comes up in class here and marginally in distance too, but he is down in the weights, draws well, and he can go two for two. (6) TRAUM KING is three starts into a comeback following seven months out. He has been working his way back into contention with a 3rd and a 2nd from his latest two, both at this class over 1300M, and while he carries his fair share of weight here, he can be a threat. (1) AUSTIN LEADER too enters in good form with a 3rd and a 4th from his latest two. He comes into a better gate today and should be there or thereabouts again. Up in class (5) JURING SKY, along with (11) HERO JEONSA are others who can have a say.

Selections (2) Khan Max (6) Traum King (1) Austin Leader (5) Juring Sky
Next Best 11, 4
Fast Start 2, 3, 6, 8

Busan Race 5: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

Since running 5th on debut, (5) KING DRAGON has put together a strong of four consecutive victories, front running on each occasion, and most recently at class 4 level over 1400M on September 6th. He steps up once more in both class and in distance here, and in standard of opposition, but he looks a talent, and he can continue on his merry way. (9) VERLUC mixes his form, but he is a two-time winner at this distance, most recently two starts back at this class on August 16th. He can sit behind the early speed and can be in this a long way. (7) HUNTER DRAGON struggled on his first go at this class, but he too is a winner at this distance. He went through a trial in fine order last week and can be given another chance today. (1) LOUD COLOR and (6) SEKWANG CHOEGANG among others in the placing frame.

Selections (5) King Dragon (9) Verluc (7) Hunter Dragon (1) Loud Color
Next Best 6, 11
Fast Start 1, 5, 10, 11

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(9) SOCKS KING has been getting closer across three starts so far, most recently when 2nd at this class and distance on August 24th. The wide draw shouldn’t be a problem and with Ruan Maia climbing on, today can be his day. (3) ELDORADO GANGNAM did little in a trial but debuted very pleasing at this class and distance on August 18th when racing handy throughout and running on for 3rd place, ahead of three of today’s rivals. He should have come on for the run and from a good draw, he may well start as the betting favourite. (8) LUCKY FRANK was well backed in that August 18th race but ultimately finished last. We’ll go on his 3rd place on debut though and give him another chance here. (2) HERO SOCKS and (7) GRAY CHARLIE others to look out for.

Selections (9) Socks King (3) Eldorado Gangnam (8) Lucky Frank (2) Hero Socks
Next Best 7, 6
Fast Start 3, 6, 7, 8

Busan Race 6: Class 2 (2000M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

It’s about time that (1) ARCTURUS returned to winning ways. He enters having run 2nd at this class and distance on Augus 23rd having led for much of the way around and beating a couple of these in the process. He carries a light weight, he draws very nicely, and today he can go all the way. He will vie for favourite status with (8) I WILL BE FREE. HE rarely runs a bad race and comes in after being a beaten favourite over 1800M on September 15th when running on well but just a little too late. At start thirty-one he comes up to 2000M for the first time, and it could be what he needs. That can apply to (2) LUCAS SUN as well (although he has tried this distance on one occasion). He can get quite far back in his races but generally does his best work late and can run into the money here. (6) ALIVE CAPTAIN and (9) GALLANT WARRIOR are others to consider.

Selections (1) Arcturus (8) I Will Be Free (2) Lucas Sun (6) Alice Captain
Next Best 9, 5
Fast Start 1, 5, 7, 8

Seoul Race 8: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(10) ULTRA THUNDER comes in having run 2nd on debut over 1300M in July and then winning at the second time of asking in a quick race over 1200M, coming from off the pace. He comes up in class and in distance but is down 3kg in the weights, and the Cross Traffic juvenile can overcome both the draw and his seniors here. (5) JEONGSANG ACE will need a line drawn through his latest on August 18th when a well-beaten favourite at this class over 1800M. Instead, we’ll go on his win two starts back when leading most of the way around and from a better gate than that forgettable August effort, he can be given another chance.  (1) NICE BIG GIRL was 2nd on her only previous try at this distance, two starts back at class 4 level. She ran a close 4th on her first try at this level at 1400M on September 8th and can be a danger here. (9) MIGHTY JJANG, 3rd in that September 8th race, along with (6) BYEOLNARA JILJU, are others in the frame.

Selections (10) Ultra Thunder (5) Jeongsang Ace (1) Nice Big Girl (9) Mighty Jjang
Next Best 6, 4
Fast Start 4, 6, 8, 9

Seoul Race 9: Class 4 (1700M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(2) ZETTA MASTER returned from ten months out to run a very sild 4th place at this class and distance on August 31st, settling back and running on. He draws nice well, comes down 1kg in the weights, and having surely derived benefit from that run, can be the one to beat here. (3) MADISON MOUNTAIN has been working her way back towards another win. At het latest start on August 25th, she led for much of the way around over 1800M, only being passed late and finishing 2nd. She draws better to get an easier lead here and can be in this a long way again. (8) BLOOD MOUNTAIN has won at this distance and has a 5th and a 4th in two subsequent starts at this level. He remains very nicely in at the weights and can be a danger. (7) SSEULMO and (4) BRIGHT WINNER among others to consider for the places.

Selections (2) Zetta Master (3) Madison Mountain (8) Blood Mountain (7) Sseulmo
Next Best 4, 1
Fast Start 2, 4, 7, 11

Seoul Race 10: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

(3) GIANT STEP is a winner of three from seven starts and has finish on the top four in all of his seven starts so far. The most recent of those was two starts back over a mile at class 4 level before running 2nd on his first try at this level, also at a mile. He comes up to two turns for the first time, but he looks more than ready for it, and he is the one to beat here. (5) GLADIUS has three back-to-back runner-up finishes including most recently in a valuable Trophy race on international weekend at 1400M. She too comes up to the 1800M for the first time and while she carries an additional 4kg today, she is a big danger. (8) THUNDER A ONE is rapidly up two classes having won back-to-back races at 1200M and a mile. Down in the weights, he is another who can measure up at both this class and distance. (10) WINNER YOUNG and (1) MEGA DRAGON other contenders.

Selections (3) Giant Step (5) Gladius (8) Thunder A One (10) Winner Young
Next Best 1, 6
Fast Start 3, 5, 7, 8

Seoul Race 11: Class 1 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

(1) SAENAE QUEEN has some serious speed about her which she showed when beating lots of these with a gate to wire score at this class and distance on August 4th in a time that would win the international Korea Sprint most years. It’s perhaps a pity she didn’t go around in that race, but she comes up 3kg here and is very much the one to beat. (9) MORFHIS and (8) COMPLETE VALUE came home in 2nd and 3rd place in that August 4th race. Morfhis went on to run 8th in the Korea Sprint while Complete Value, like Saenae Queen, comes straight here after two months off, and both are dangers here. (In a competitive race, (4) CHOEGO RACE and (3) GLOBAL BOBAE are probably the other most likely placegetters.

Selections (1) Saenae Queen (9) Morfhis (8) Complete Value (4) Choego Race
