The three place getters in last month’s G1 Selangor Gold Cup will clash again in the 1400m G3 Sports Toto Supreme Challenge Cup (Race 7) to be contested at Selangor Turf Club this Sunday.
ANTIPODEAN (5) and GOLDEN PEGASUS (9) have been the standout horses this season with both providing an enthralling battle in the cup which went the way of ANTIPODEAN by a head. It took the record of ANTIPODEAN (5) to 8 wins from 9 Malaysian starts and he remains unbeaten in two starts over the 1400m journey. GOLDEN PEGASUS (9) has started since with a half-length defeat at the hands of BERRY BLISS (4) over 1700m on September 22. However, he can atone for those defeats and possesses the class to overturn those recent results. As mentioned, last year’s Penang Sprint Trophy winner BERRY BLISS (4) returned to winning form and looks a chance despite the wide draw. Stable mate GAMESTONKS (2) is the only galloper so far to lower the colours of ANTIPODEAN (5) and has proven himself in this grade before. Despite his recent defeat as an odds-on favourite and the outside barrier, the Joseph Leck galloper has the class to overcome the obstacles and his early speed should place him in good stead. Perak Coronation Cup winner from last year, GOOD FIGHT (10) has regained his best form after finishing third at huge odds in the Selangor Gold Cup and was far from disgraced filling the same position behind BERRY BLISS (4) last start.
Race 7 Selections: (5) Antipodean (9) Golden Pegasus (4) Berry Bliss (2) Gamestonks
Leading trainer, Simon Dunderdale looks to have a stranglehold on the 1100m Power Toto Stakes (Race 5) with his talented sprinters, WITNESSIMPACT (4) and MILITARY FLAG (3) likely to dominate the contest. WITNESSIMPACT (4) has been ultra impressive in three local starts, leading throughout on each occasion and winning by big margins. Compared to his 9L and 6.75L victories at his first two runs locally, the gelding was never in doubt when scoring by 1.75L at his first run in Class 3 company here three weeks ago and will be out to maintain his unbeaten record in the country. MILITARY FLAG (3) finished with a powerful burst from midfield when scoring on Track Two recently following his unplaced effort in the G1 Selangor Gold Cup. The promising 4yo has won 6 from 13 locally and should provide an epic battle for his locally unbeaten stable mate.
Of the others, former Macau galloper MEGA GEMS (1) did not disgrace when first up for six months when finishing 4th over 1200m on September 21. The 6yo will strip fitter and is one for the exotics. TITAN PEGASUS (5) ran 5th to MILITARY FLAG (3) after leading but is likely to be racing on speed this time around while former Kranji performer, SATURNO SPRING (2) should improve second up.
Race 5 Selections: (4) Witnessimpact (3) Military Flag (1) Mega Gems (5) Titan Pegasus
