Jockey Curatolo Set for Tokyo City Keiba Return, Eyes More Success

Renowned jockey Ryan Curatolo is set to return to the Tokyo City Keiba (TCK) circuit on a short-term riding license from 14 October through 6 December 2024. After a standout season in Singapore, where he notched 40 wins, the accomplished rider now has his sights set on Japan, with ambitions to continue his winning streak and possibly secure a Group race victory during his time there.

Speaking with Curatolo ahead of his departure, he shared his excitement and focus for the upcoming stint. “I’ll be in quarantine from the night before the first meeting due to Japan’s strict protocols. My phone will be taken on Sunday night and returned on Friday after the races, and I won’t be able to leave the facility. But I’ll have access to the track for morning work, and the gym, spa, and canteen are all available. It’s a bit isolating, but it’s all part of the preparation.”

Curatolo’s previous experience in Tokyo was a successful one, with an impressive tally of 15 winners in just one month back in August 2023. This time around, he’s setting his expectations high. “The goal, as always, is to win more races, and hopefully add a Group race to my achievements while I’m here.”

The year 2023 has already been fruitful for Curatolo, who returned to Singapore for the first time in seven years, finishing in the top five in the Lion City Cup. His tally of 40 wins came thanks to the support of several trainers, including a highly successful partnership with Tim Fitzsimmons. “Teaming up with Tim was great; we had a strong connection and got some fantastic results together. Other trainers also gave me great opportunities, and I’m pleased with the year I had in Singapore.”

As Curatolo prepares to ride in Japan, his fans from Singapore will no doubt be watching closely to see if he can build on his previous success in Tokyo. Stay tuned for updates as this talented jockey takes on yet another challenge in the global racing arena.
