It is never easy to win three legs of a Challenge, but trainer Glen Kotzen has given his charge, King Regent every chance of doing just that.
Race 6 at Fairview on Friday is the Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Poly Challenge 1600 and it is the third and final leg of the events.
King Regent was heavily supported win the opening leg of the Challenge, over 1200m on 23 August. The Dynasty gelding was well drawn that day and managed to sit handy and took the lead just after they entered the straight and drew away to a 3.25-length victory.
Stepped up to 1400m in the second leg, the five-year-old gelding was not well drawn, and jockey Dennis Schwarz dropped him to the back of the field.
That normally is the worst place to be on the Polytrack but once again King Regent was given clear daylight on the outside of the track and quickened for another impressive win.
Once again, he attracted big betting support.
For this leg King Regent is well drawn and the 1600m is not really a problem so Schwarz can do the business on him once again.
Jockey Craig Zackey is having another very good season and he was an unlucky loser on filly Montelena earlier this month.
The filly was weighted to win her last run but did not get the run of the race and was touched off by Heart Stealer
Although narrowly beaten, it was a below-par effort from her and she is not as well weighted in Race 4, a Middle Stakes over 1300m.
Zackey gets a chance to make amends for that defeat. She is well drawn in pole position and ran well on the Polytrack before in her previous races
If things have not shone with those two selections then you might want to have some places on Kileigh’s Fate in Race 8, a MR 64 Handicap for fillies and mares.
The filly tries 1600m on the Polytrack and is badly drawn but she did run well the last time apprentice jockey Donald Geerthsen was aboard her.
