With Fourie’s away, Habib can play

The formidable team of trainer Alan Greeff and jockey Richard Fourie will not be in action at Fairview on Friday, so jockey Calvin Habib gets a chance to shine.

He has not got the usual good rides that Fourie normally receives but will know Greeff is in good form and is likely to have a few winners.

Fantasy Girl in Race 2 and Inherit the Rain in Race 6 look the two obvious rides with winning hopes.

Fantasy Girl is threatening to win a race and did seem to run her best race yet when runner-up last time out behind Ice Cape.

That form looks solid enough and blinkers have now been added.

That could do the trick as she is well enough drawn to make all the running which was the favoured tactic at this track just last week when a number of the winners led from start to finish.

Inherit The Rain has always packed a decent finishing punch on the Polytrack and the 1600m last time out was expected to suit him, but he never got a serious blow-in.

His last win was over this particular course and distance and from a good No 2 draw Habib should get a decent run from the seven-year-old gelding.

If those two picks have not come to light it may be worth being with rival trainer Gavin Smith and jockey Craig Zackey in the last three races on the card.

USA’s Hope makes his local debut but he is well drawn and has run a couple of times on the surface so could go close to winning Race 7

In Race 8, a MR 68 Handicap over 1200m, much-improved Jambo Sana could strike again.

They have worked out how to ride her and she was a very easy winner last time out.

That win sparked a seven-point penalty but that may not be enough to anchor her. She is not well drawn and will need luck in running.

Jade’s Caberneigh has been a bit of a disappointment in her last two starts but has won three of her last six outings and can bounce back to score.
