RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: KENILWORTH@2024.11.23
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 800m, Turf, R250.000, 12:05GMT+2
Race Summary: The betting should provide a guide to the chances of these unraced 2yo colts and fillies, so follow the market moves. Well-related BLACK CHEETAH is a likely type given his pedigree and will be of interest with Richard Fourie engaged. Stablemates SO AMERICAN and BLOWN AWAY are attractively bred colts who could also go well on debut. Fillies BETWEEN THE LINES, WALK RIGHT IN and GATHERING WINTER aren’t taken lightly in receipt of a 2.5kg sex allowance.
Selections:
#4 Black Cheetah, #8 Blown Away, #9 Gathering Winter, #7 Walk Right In
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125.000, 12:40GMT+2
Race Summary: ENGLEFIELD GREEN wouldn’t be winning out of turn and needn’t improve a great deal over this extended trip to open her account. SWEET CONIFER finished a promising 3rd over 1400m on debut and should play a leading role with a repeat of that performance, even from her wide starting berth. NEMOROSA finished ahead of that rival over 1200m last time and will make her presence felt if building on that progress over the extra 200m. RUSSIAN ROYAL is open to improvement on her reappearance after a pleasing introduction. SHEETS AND GOGGLES, LOUI’S STAR and newcomer ANNIE’S SONG aren’t taken lightly.
Selections:
#7 Englefield Green, #3 Russian Royal, #11 Sweet Conifer, #5 Nemorosa
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R125.000, 13:15GMT+2
Race Summary: TUSCAN ROMANCE has filled the runners-up berth in each of her 5 appearances and deserves to get her head in front. FROM A DISTANCE (blinker strike) and HOPE CHEST have shown enough to expose any chinks in that rival’s armour. GIRL MAGIC, HOW RIGHT YOU ARE and BLOSSOMING MIND would have come on from encouraging introductions so they could improve to get involved. Well-bred newcomer BEZONDER is worth a market check.
Selections:
#15 Tuscan Romance, #7 Hope Chest, #2 Bezonder, #5 From A Distance
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R250.000, 13:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Quality over quantity in this Listed 3yo sprint. ROMAN AGENT (gelded) and MISS WORLD (blinkered) improved to finish ahead of LION RAMPART over 1000m earlier this month but the best-weighted latter should, on paper, reverse that form on these revised terms. KAIBOY is progressive and gave weight and a beating to a subsequent Grade 2 winner last time over 1250m, so he should be involved. MAPHAKA was unlucky not to have finished closer to that rival on his reappearance (Western Cape debut) and should pose more of a threat on 2kg better terms. HANDSOME PRINCE and MAURITIUS KESTREL have claims too.
Selections:
#3 Lion Rampart, #7 Roman Agent, #6 Kaiboy, #2 Maphaka
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R225.000, 14:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Many with chances in this big field but none appeals more than best-weighted QUESTIONING who won a 1400m Grade 3 last time and is unbeaten over course and distance. MEU CAPITANO got the better of that rival in a 1200m meeting earlier this year and remains competitive for race honours, despite a 1.5kg weight turnaround. CAPTAIN ARROW, FUTURE VARIETY and SILVER FALCON are closely matched with those principals on recent form and renew rivalry with legitimate aspirations. KING REGENT, last-start Grade 2 winner CAFE CULTURE and stablemates TEFLON MAN, OUTLAW KING and THE REAL PRINCE have claims too.
Selections:
#6 Questioning, #3 Meu Capitano, #12 King Regent, #7 Silver Falco
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R180.000, 15:05GMT+2
Race Summary: A Non-Black Type feature worthy of Graded status as familiar foes RASCOVA, DOUBLE GRAND SLAM and RED PALACE clashed at the highest level last season. Versatile older mares GOLD POKER GAME and SAARTJIE have the form and experience to acquit themselves competitively, so they shouldn’t be underestimated. However, comeback scorers RASCOVA and RED PALACE are favourably treated by the conditions and are likely to fight out the finish. Consistent PRINCESS IZZY placed in a 1400m Grade 3 last time and should go well again off an unchanged mark, and reverse earlier form with KNOCKOUT (3kg worse off).
Selections:
#2 Rascova, #4 Red Palace, #3 Double Grand Slam, #6 Princess Izzy
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R500.000, 15:40GMT+2
Race Summary: The traditional Cape Guineas trial and key pointer to that Grade 1 classic. Top-rated ONE STRIPE lost little in defeat when finishing 2nd to a well-weighted older rival who subsequently franked that form with a wide-margin victory. He would have benefitted from that 1400m comeback and is open to further improvement over this extended trip. EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN won a 2yo Grade 3 over 1500m when last seen, beating recent Grade 3 Cape Classic 3rd ALL OUT FOR SIX, and is open to any amount of progress on his return. ON MY HONOUR, undefeated over 1600m (albeit on Poly), and unexposed GARRIX come next.
Selections:
#5 One Stripe, #4 Eight On Eighteen, #3 All Out For Six, #6 Garrix
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 16:15GMT+2
Race Summary: UNICORN ALERT caught the eye when running on from a long way back to finish a close-up 5th in a similar course-and-distance event recently with first-time blinkers fitted. He is drawn wide again but should remain competitive, even without the headgear. NOON DAY GUN is closely matched and weighted to pose more of a threat on 0.5kg better weight terms. EMPIRE STATE was backed that day when finishing sandwiched between those rivals but unlucky not to have done better. He would’ve benefitted from that seasonal pipe-opener and should have more to offer. BILLY COOL, SON OF ZEUS and MONT LOISIR next.
Selections:
#1 Empire State, #11 Unicorn Alert, #2 Spirit’s Unite, #9 Noon Day Gun
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R85.000, 16:50GMT+2
Race Summary: ROYAL PORT LOUIS finished 2nd over track and trip last time. He has the form and experience to play another leading role but is vulnerable to lightly raced younger rival EXPRESS YOURSELF who is 1kg better off and has more scope for improvement. HEEMSTEDE showed pace on debut from a wide draw and is also likely to improve with that experience to count on from a favourable No 3 gate. FUTURE FREQUENCY is awkwardly positioned in gate No 12 but should have more to offer over this extended trip. SPECIAL GLAMOUR gets weight from those male rivals so shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Selections:
#2 Express Yourself, #6 Royal Port Louis, #12 Future Frequency, #3 Heemstede
Kenilworth, 23.11.2024, Race 10, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R85.000, 17:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Improving BOMBERS IN THE SKY has run well recently over 1600m but given the impression that this longer distance will be more to his liking. He is neatly stationed in gate No 2 and needn’t make much progress over the extra 400m to open his account. Older rivals GOLDEN GREY and GLOBAL REEF concede weight to the selection but have the form and experience over this distance to get involved. Top-weight CONGRESSMAN fits a similar profile but remains open to improvement. GREENLIGHT LEGEND caught the eye over 1800m and could have more to offer this trip. JOHNNY DRAMA and PAST AND PRESENT come next.
Selections:
#2 Bombers In The Sky, #8 Congressman, #1 Greenlight Legend, #4 Golden Grey
Best Win: #15 TUSCAN ROMANCE
Best Value Bet: #1 EMPIRE STATE
Best Longshot: #1 EMPIRE STATE
