January 4 Selangor Preview By Mark Lydeamore

Course A will be in operation for Races 1-5 while Races 6-9 will be contested on Track Two (inner track) as the Selangor Turf Club will host a nine-race program on Saturday commencing at 1.30pm.

The 1250m Open Maiden (Race 3) should provide an interesting contest as premiership winning trainer, Simon Dunderdale supplies a first starter in LIMITLESS SPEAR (3) which trialed well here two weeks back. Now a 4yo, the son of Impending had numerous trials towards the end of 2023 but never raced when based in New Zealand. He will go up against those with race experience including JOYEE GO (6), which justified its solid trial form when finishing runner up at start number two along with FLYING SUCCESS (5), who debuted with a second in Class 5 grade after several encouraging runs in Restricted Maiden company when based in Singapore. CINNAMON BLAZE (1) may have slightly been out of his depth when debuting in a Class 4 contest but the former Australian galloper produced an excellent trial win on December 24 and is on the verge of landing the major prize also. ACHILLES PEGASUS (7) has displayed ability in two outings and could surprise at valuable odds.

The 1020m Class 3 (Race 8) looks to be an even contest where former Singapore galloper, ELLIOT NESS (3) debuts for the Nick Selvan stable and is coming off successive Singapore victories prior to spelling back in September. Not a great deal could be divulged from his recent trial and he normally requires a run or two before he starts to show any worthwhile form which may be the query for the 7yo. BURAAQ SIXTY-ONE (9) was a beaten favourite in a Metro A event last start (5th to Chinese Tea) but his form against similar grade prior, including a win at the track and distance two starts back, suggests he will be hard to dismiss. PACIFIC FLASH (5) ran 4th in the same Metro A race and broke through at Class 3 level on November 10. The 8yo does tend to mix his form but if he’s on song, he will take some beating. DANCING LIGHT (1) will strip fitter second up and looks a chance despite not winning from numerous attempts in this grade. FAITHFUL LEADER (6) is a lightly raced 6yo originally from Australia but has a good record of 2 wins and 3 placings from 6 starts but has been off the scene for twelve months. Bowing out a winner in Singapore last campaign, the Super One gelding looked sharp and up to the mark in a recent trial.
