RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: FAIRVIEW@2025.01.17

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R75.000, 12:25GMT+2

Race Summary: GREENLIGHT EXPRESS has improved with blinkers and can go one better this time if he behaves at the gates. VELVET VALOUR has been better of late on the Polytrack with blinkers and could contest the finish again. SEEKING THE LIFE seems better than a modest last run on the Polytrack and could earn some money. HAT MAN has a place chance. EXTRACTION has had his best runs on the grass so should be involved with the finish. FEEL THE WIND, LIKE A BUTTERFLY and OPERA VERSE are all capable of earning money back on the turf.

Selections:

#1 Greenlight Express, #11 Extraction, #6 Hat Man, #12 Summer Heat

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R78.000, 13:00GMT+2

Race Summary: A field of newcomers. The only filly in the race, DIRECT HIT, represents the Alan Greeff-Richard Fourie combination and she could be too speedy for her male rivals. Trainer Gavin Smith sends out three runners and stable jockey Craig Zackey gets aboard SUPREME JUDGE but do not be surprised if Erupt gelding BRIGHT ERUPTION or stable companion GALILEO STAR prove superior on the day. ROYAL KINGDOM with Muzi Yeni in the saddle is another where the betting will be the best guide to his chance.

Selections:

#9 Direct Hit, #6 Royal Kingdom, #7 Supreme Judge, #8 Winter Warfare

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R80.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary: A small field with some quality Eastern Cape three-year-olds. MY BEST SHOT proved his penultimate start was best ignored with an impressive performance last time out. He is at best on the turf and this distance suits, so is clearly the one to beat. GOLDEN LINK did not show his best side against elders last time out but will do better this time and will be a threat. GOLDEN RULE clearly has talent and has already travelled to the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. If there are any chinks in the armour of MY BEST SHOT then GOLDEN RULE will find it. It is hard to see any of the other three runners as a serious threat.

Selections:

#1 My Best Shot, #2 Golden Link, #5 Global State, #4 Golden Rule

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R75.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary: More was expected from FIRE ALARM in her three starts so far. She ran well last time out when third behind Rainbow River. That form is not the strongest but she could be ready to win. TIK TOK ADDICTION could improve back on the grass and has a place chance. GLOBAL SCENE tried handicap company last time out and fell short but will contest the finish over a course and distance that suits. REGINA LOU tried her luck against a star filly last time out but could do a lot better back on the grass. MS PATTY has not shown much in four Western Cape runs but could improve on local debut.

Selections:

#3 Fire Alarm, #4 Global Scene, #6 Ms Patty, #1 Tik Tok Addiction

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R76.000, 14:45GMT+2

Race Summary: HEART STEALER won on local debut. He was unlucky in two starts since then. Blinkers are back on this gelding and he did win at Durbanville when last wearing them. HEAD GARDENER has been much improved of late. He came from a long way behind them when winning on the Polytrack last time out. He has won on the turf so could be a threat. RASTIGNAC showed improvement when third last time out on the Polytrack. His only win was on that surface though. GARDENER’S PRIDE won on the turf and can get involved with the finish. SAN QUINTIN is unreliable but quite capable of contesting the finish.

Selections:

#1 Heart Stealer, #7 San Quintin, #6 Gardener’s Pride, #4 Head Gardener

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R76.000, 15:20GMT+2

Race Summary: ARIVIDICIO has looked unlucky not to have won either of his last two starts and both his wins have been on the turf so he does set the standard for the race. LEGAL THRILLER was unlucky not to win his latest start which was on the Polytrack. His last three runs on the turf were not good though. MR MOLONY seemed not to see out 2000m last time so should be a real threat this shorter distance. POTENT CAPTAIN should have finished closer just a week ago so could do better this time. BEIJING BOULEVARD could have more to offer back on turf and could surprise.

Selections:

#7 Arividicio, #1 Legal Thriller, #4 Potent Captain, #2 Mr Molony

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R80.000, 15:55GMT+2

Race Summary: An interesting race. RAVILIOUS has struggled a bit on the Polytrack of late. He should be a threat off his current merit rating back on the turf. The same can also be said of the mare CHRONICLESOFNANIA. HOLOCENE has been at his very best on the Polytrack this season but did look an unlucky loser last time out and has also won on the turf. OLIVER TWIST showed his penultimate run was worth ignoring when a very easy winner last time out. He may have more to offer. FUJISAN can upset if finding his best form. A race to go wide in the Pick 6.

Selections:

#6 Ravilious, #7 Chroniclesofnania, #4 Oliver Twist, #3 Holocene

Fairview, 17.01.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R104.000, 16:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Another very competitive-looking race. THREE ROCKS got lost on the Polytrack in her last start and can make amends back on the grass. PASSCHENDAELE was not beaten far in her raid to Gauteng last time out and would not be a surprise winner. PARIS LASS has twice beaten rival THREE ROCKS over this course and distance. Stable companion GIMME’S LASSIE and MONTELENA are both capable of winning a race like this. SYMBOL OF LOVE has improved tremendously of late and is another to consider. KABON KAPI has been on a winning streak on the Polytrack but will need to show she is as good on the turf.

Selections:

#1 Three Rocks, #2 Passchendaele, #4 Gimme’s Lassie, #10 Montelena

Best Win: #1 HEART STEALER

Best Value Bet:

Best Longshot: #6RAVILIOUS
