February 8 Perak Preview By Mark Lydeamore

A marathon twelve race program will be conducted at Perak Turf Club this Saturday commencing at 12.30pm.

No feature races to speak of but the higher graded contests should prove to be interesting affairs despite the small field sizes.

The 1300m Cosmo B (Race 3) contains eight runners where the inform LEONG MA BISCUIT (2) will be seeking atonement after being denied the winning hat trick at the last meeting here on January 11. Coming off successive Class 4 victories, the 5yo was overhauled by his higher rated stable mate Vincent’s Star on the class upgrade but can easily bounce back this weekend.

PEAKY BLINDER (3), a winner of 3 races from 7 starts, is an above average 3yo which has rapidly progressed through the grades. Placed in a Class 3 place contest two runs back, the Kevin Coetzee trained gelding will be freshened since his unplaced effort in Penang on Gold Cup day.

AHTIMS KLIS (1) doesn’t win often in these higher grades but appears well placed under the handicapping conditions. The mare goes up 4kg from her unplaced effort in that same race won by Vincent’s Star.

The form of ARTHUR PEGASUS (4) has tapered off since his last win in October and should be an improver on the six-day backup while ONEMOREFORTHEROAD (5) makes his local debut with his best form over longer trips.

The 1200m Cosmo B event (Race 9) sees the return of the promising QUICKEN AWAY (2), who resumes from a bleeding attack sustained in the G1 Coronation Cup last November. The 6yo mare will clash with another promising type in NO MORE DELAY (5), which has struck career best form this campaign for trainer Wayne Lim.

NO MORE DELAY (5) has chalked up three wins from his past five starts and was far from disgraced in a competitive Class 3 finishing runner up over 1200m. The 6yo scored at this track in November and will prove hard to beat.

VINCENT’S STAR (4) maintained his good first up record when scoring here at the last meeting and is a horse which does seem to race better in the early stages of each preparation. Jockey Rueven Ravindra retains the mount and the 4yo is a chance of going back-to-back.

BURGUNDY BUBBLES (7) is another progressive type likely to reach the next level. The 4yo appeared short of a run and cast a plate when resuming behind VINCENT’S STAR (4) and will strip fitter this time around.

STORM EIGHTY-THREE (3) requires a fast pace to be a genuine chance is also one for the trifectas
