February 9 Selangor Preview By Mark Lydeamore

Races 1-4 will be contested on Track Two while Races 5-11 will take place on the A4 Course for the Selangor Turf Club on Sunday commencing at 12.45pm.

Following his resumption to racing from a ten-month break, WINNING STRIDE (3) will strip fitter and looks a chance for a winning return in the 1200m Class 3 contest (Race 8). The 6yo needed the run when resuming here on January 19 and can break through at his first run at Class 3 level.

Former Singapore galloper, LAST SAMURAI (6) is the likely pace setter in a race devoid of early pace and could be one to watch first up. A winner of four races over 1200m, the local debutant also makes his Class 3 debut and could be another handy acquisition for the HY Cheng yard.

PACIFIC MASTER (7) caught the eye with a fast-finishing 2nd over 1100m here last Friday and could go one better third up on the nine day back up. The 5yo is only a moderate beginner but from the better draw, he can be placed handily in the run and come with a late surge like last start.

WECANDO (4) has descended to a winnable rating and is proven in this grade. The 10yo was trapped wide with the rider losing his whip last start so may pay to forgive that performance.

ELLIOT NESS (1) and DAYLIGHT (5) both have trifecta claims.

If he is able to overcome the wide draw, BILLY ELLIOT (3) can also make a winning return in the 1020m Class 4B contest (Race 4). The 8yo has established a good record in Malaysia posting 2 wins and 3 minor placings from 6 starts and looks the one to beat second up from a two-month spell. BILLY ELLIOT (3) resumed over this track and distance a fortnight ago and was arguably unlucky not to win when closing off to finish 3rd (0.5L) after an uncharacteristically slow beginning.

SUPERMAX (6) finished 3rd over 1020m here on the upgrade a fortnight ago following a Class 5 win at Penang in December. The 8yo is a reliable beginner and is a chance to open his winning account at Class 4 level.

STAR VICTORY (8) is first up for the Frank Maynard stable and displayed some dash in a recent jump out. A last start winner in Singapore, the 6yo is a previous first up winner and looks a chance at the weights.

FIRST BOWL (7) is a trifle one paced who doesn’t win too often but is worth putting into the exotics. He requires a fast pace to feature in the finish while PACIFIC WARLORD (2) has looked plain at his past two outings and may be better suited back to the sprint trip this Sunday.
