The Lawson Moy stable had a red-letter day on Sunday with a treble of wins from the nine runners saddled throughout the eleven-race program.

The day could not have got off to a better start as he saddled Lim’s Sinai in the first race and despite a few punters holding their breathe at the 200m mark, a perfectly timed ride by KC Wong was able to pip the long time leader, Handsome Joyful, in the final stages to win by a head. Credit to KC Wong as he has been in hot form of late after four wins in Ipoh on Saturday as well.

First Bowl was the second of the treble which came in race 4. First Bowl was perfectly placed off the leaders back turning for home and made his run towards the inside under the guidance of L De Souza. It was a hard-fought victory as the leader, My Determination, was certainly determined to stay in front and fought right back at the end only to be defeated by a head with First Bowl now taking his win tally up to 10 wins.

The final of the treble was completed in the penultimate race of the afternoon with the well backed Lim’s Faber who has had an unlucky start to life in Malaysia with two second placings in the build up to this victory. Uzair was the jockey aboard and this time round, it wasn’t a closely contested finish as Lim’s Faber won easing up at the line by just under 2 lengths. The second placed horse was Cheeky White Face who just happens to be the stable companion to the winner and rounded up a hot day for the Moy stable as well as the owner CS Tan.

KC Tham and L De Souza both celebrated doubles on the day as Tham rode the N Selvan trained Dancing Tycoon in the second and closed off the meeting with the outsider Royal Commander from the SY Lim stable. The second of De Souza’s wins came in race 5 aboard Perseverance from the Sivan yard who bounced back to form with a solid win.

Of the trainers, N Selvan was the only other trainer to celebrate more than one winner on the day as He’s My Halo came out to win the 9th race and opened up his Malaysian account and completed the Selvan double.

Racing takes place at the Selangor Turf Club again on Sunday the 16th of February.
