RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: TURFFONTEIN INSIDE@2025.03.27
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R120.000, 12:40GMT+2
Race Summary: Less than 0.50 lengths separated VAMANOS and RED CARAMEL over this distance 3 weeks ago. The latter edged that meeting but the former, who would’ve benefitted from that debut experience, could turn the tables with natural improvement expected. DONDOYAKI is best judged on her debut outing and should get into the picture if bouncing back from a disappointing subsequent start. Watch the betting on well-bred newcomers MALIBU and SAY A WISH.
Selections: #8 Vamanos, #5 Red Caramel, #7 Say A Wish, #4 Malibu
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R130.000, 13:15GMT+2
Race Summary: CONSTELLATION was heavily supported on debut in a 2yo feature and ran accordingly, finishing a close-up 4th over 1000m. With that experience to count on and improvement expected, he ought to repay his followers. NYAKA NYAKA has shown enough to trouble the selection and will likely fill the Exacta position. Newcomers SAFE TRAVEL and SUNSET WARRIOR are worth a market check on debut.
Selections: #1 Constellation, #3 Nyaka Nyaka, #5 Safe Travel, #8 Hotaru
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R105.000, 13:50GMT+2
Race Summary: WAGRAM caught the eye when staying on to finish 3rd on her Highveld/stable debut over 1400m and this extended trip will be more to her liking. IZANAMI and WORLD TOUR may also have more to offer stepping up to this distance. AURORA GREEN and MATTIAZO are closely matched on the form of a recent meeting over this distance on the Standside track and there should be little between the pair again, though the latter is preferred from a favourable No 1 gate.
Selections: #3 Wagram, #1 Izanami, #8 Mattiazo, #7 Aurora Green
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R135.000, 14:25GMT+2
Race Summary: SOLDIER’S EYE and MY LADY SOUL are closely matched on the form of a recent 1400m meeting on the Standside track at a higher level. They renew rivalry on similar weight terms, so there should be little between them again. Both are competitive at this level and should make their presence felt. However, preference is for consistent CAPE LIGHTS who acquitted herself well in a Listed race on the Standside track from a wide draw last time. She wears first-time blinkers and races off a slightly lower mark, so represents an attractive betting proposition. CEUTA and I AM REGAL complete the shortlist.
Selections: #4 Cape Lights, #1 Soldier’s Eye, #5 My Lady Soul, #3 Ceuta
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R105.000, 15:00GMT+2
Race Summary: BLIND AMBITION could hardly have been more impressive on her Highveld and stable debut. She was a wide-margin winner of a 1450m maiden on this track and, with scope for further improvement, may be better than rated. DEVILISHLYGORGEOUS has also thrived since relocating from the Western Cape and wasn’t winning out of turn last time, albeit in a Work Riders’ maiden. She ought to be competitive on her handicap debut. However, a bigger threat to the selection could be posed by fellow last-start scorers JUNIPER GREEN and SECRET RECIPE. Of the remainder BOOM BOOM and STREISAND have to be respected.
Selections: #1 Blind Ambition, #5 Streisand, #3 Juniper Green, #4 Secret Recipe
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R120.000, 15:35GMT+2
Race Summary: Both of Joe Soma’s runners at the meeting line up in this race with genuine winning credentials. Hard-knocker AVOONTOAST wouldn’t be winning out of turn after back-to-back recent 2nds, so she is preferred to progressive 3yo stablemate SERRANO who blotted his copybook last time out but had legitimate excuses. Fellow sophomores PEACE TREATY and TINTAMARRE are closely matched on the form of a recent 1450m Vaal Classic meeting – both have the means to play a role in the outcome. ZIP CODE and FUTUREWOLFF appeal most of the remainder.
Selections: #2 Avoontoast, #7 Serrano, #4 Peace Treaty, #5 Tintamarre
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 2600m, Turf, R100.000, 16:10GMT+2
Race Summary: Consistent hard-knocker IDEAL FUTURE will relish this sterner test of stamina and could represent generous Eachway value. She is closely matched with top-weight COFFEEBERRY on the form of their 2400m Standside track meeting last month but is 5kg better off with the latter. On that form, both MO MENT and TEO TORRIATE should acquit themselves competitively on these revised weight terms. Course-and-distance specialists NUCLEAR FORCE, CLEAR THE PATH and THE MERCIFUL aren’t taken lightly. STORM AHEAD caught the eye on his reappearance and should have a say. PANNING GOLD is respected trying 2600m.
Selections: #2 Ideal Future, #7 The Merciful, #5 Nuclear Force, #6 Clear The Path
Turffontein Inside, 27.03.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R130.000, 16:45GMT+2
Race Summary: Last-start winners ADDRESS THE NATION (promoted) and SECRET CHORD should remain competitive under resultant penalties. However, both need to find improvement if they are to follow up off their career-high ratings. Class-dropper HALBERDIER, hard-knocker CIAN THE CONQUEROR and consistent ZANTHAR also have the form and experience at this level to play leading roles. The filly KINDRED HEART fits a similar profile and seems ideally placed to run a forward race under these conditions. Progressive last-start winner IT’S PERSONAL, even more so, under 53kg from gate No 1. NKANDLA GOLD can earn a cheque.
Selections: #9 It’s Personal, #7 Kindred Heart, #5 Secret Chord, #2 Address The Nation
Best Win: #1 CONSTELLATION
Best Value Bet: #1 BLIND AMBITION
Best Longshot: #1 BLIND AMBITION
